Today's Bible Reading...
March 8- Deuteronomy 21-23
If we did not have laws we would make decisions and act in the heat of our
emotions. Laws are designed and put in place so that we can deal with justice
and fairness for all people. Laws are safeguards for our society. Embrace them!
1. 21:1-9 The whole community is responsible for carrying out justice.
2. 22:1-4 Respect the property of others. Stray animals must be returned. (not
finders keepers, losers weepers)
3. Help those in need. Stop and help a neighbor get his animal out of the ditch.
4. Respect and appreciate your gender. Sex is a holy expression.
5. Be kind to animals.
6. 22: 8-11 Look out for the safety of people. Since people used their roofs as
porches it made sense to include a guardrail (parapet).
7. If you plant 2 crops side by side, only the stronger, taller one will
survive.
8. 2 different animals will be different in strength and size and cannot pull
evenly.
9. 2 different kinds of thread will wear unevenly and wash differently. If you
insist on putting them together you will reduce the life of the garment.
10. Look for reasons behind God’s laws. They are made to protect you.
11. Sexual sins have the power to disrupt and destroy our lives.
12. Prostitution was an integral part of the pagan worship services.
Prostitution makes a mockery of God’s original idea for sex. Sex is not an
isolated physical act. Sex is an act of commitment
to another.
God, help me to appreciate your laws. May I follow them and realize my
responsibility to others. Help me to love you and to love my neighbors. In the
name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
