What do we learn from this lesson?
1. We cannot worship God on our own terms. God has specified how we need to
worship.
2. Jesus was in the habit of going to the temple. We don't worship alone, we are
expect to
worship together.
3. Only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place and this was only once a
year
on the Day of Atonement. He was permitted to make atonement for the sins of the
nation
as a whole. When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain in the temple (which
replaced the
tabernacle) tore from top to bottom. This symbolized our free access to God
because
of Christ's death. People no longer needed to approach God through priests and
sacrifices.
Jesus was our sacrifice.
4. The first thing the people saw when they entered the courtyard was the altar
of burnt
offering. The people could only come to God by means of sacrifice. It was the
only way
their sins could be forgiven. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice - Hebrews 10:1-18
5. Jesus is now our high priest (Hebrews 8) We no longer give daily sacrifices.
6. The tailors were give special instructions in order to do their job. All of us
have special skills.
God wants us to use our talents and abilities in God's work.
7. Ministry is not a vocation, it is a special calling of God.
8. Any worthwhile vocation can be a calling of God. God has a purpose and plan
for all of us.
9. What is God calling you to do?
Gracious God, We thank you for your plan of salvation for us. Help me to worship
and honor you in the way that you intend. Reveal yourself to me in such a way
that I might have a greater understanding of my calling and what work you want
me to do. What part should I play in your great drama of life? In the name of
Jesus I pray. Amen.
