Chapter 37 - Joseph sold to Ishmaelites
Chapter 38 - Tamar deceives Judah
Chapter 39 - God is with Joseph
What do we learn from this lesson?
1. What a terrible thing it is for strife to dwell between brothers. This strife
led Joseph to be sold into the hands of strange men. Parents should guard
against playing favorites with their children. It will only lead to hatred,
jealousy and even cruel actions against a brother or sister.
2. Reuben tried to bring his brother home to his father but to no avail.
Sometimes hatred gets beyond logical thinking. We need to let God take care of
our differences.
3. Er was wicked in the sight of the Lord and the Lord killed him. That is all
that is said about him. What will God or my fellowmen say of me and my walk
among them?
4. God was with Joseph in Egypt and he prospered. God will not forget our
faithfulness to Him and to those we meet every day. He always prospers them with
joy, contentment and a home in heaven. Many times, if God wills, it is the
Christian person who moves up the ladder of success in life.
5. Even in prison, the Lord was with Joseph and prepared Joseph for the task of
providing for his family later. Will not the Lord also prosper those who are
falsely accused and see the injustices of life work for good?
Prayer:
Teach us patience, O Lord, and help us to accept all that happens to us with a
grateful heart and with thanksgiving and praise to Thee. Amen.
