Today's Bible Reading...

Bible Application -January 10 - Genesis 28-30

Questions:
1.”Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not __________ you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” (28:15)
2. “’And this stone which I have set as a _______ shall be God’s house, and of all that you give me i will surely give a __________ to You.’” (28:22)
3. “Now Jacob loved ___________; so he said, ‘I will serve you seven years for Rachel your youngest daughter.’” (29:18)
4. “Then Jacob also went in to ________, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another _______ years.” (29:30)
5. “Now when ___________ saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister and said to Jacob, ‘Give me children, or else I die!’” (30:1)
6. “So she called his name __________, and said, ‘The Lord shall add to me another son.’” (30:24)

Chapter 28 - Jacob’s vow
Chapter 29 - Jacob at the well of Haran
Chapter 30 - Rachel gives birth to Joseph

What do we learn from this lesson?
1. God’s promise to Jacob applies to all Christians that seek to serve God. He will never leave us and He will bring to pass all that He has promised.
2. Jacob made a promise to God. Our tithes to God shall not depend on a promise. Tithing is a commitment to the command of God and not one of those “if” things, such as, “if I win the Lotto”, or “if you will do this for me then I will give you the tithe”. God has already done it all. No strings attached. Only confession of sins, accepting that forgiveness, then live and serve Him.
3. Here is real love! Serve a man seven years for the privilege of having his daughter in marriage. Through difficult times in their lives, in the custom of the land, they remain faithful and continue to love each other.
4. In the grief of her barrenness, Rachel cried, ‘give me children or else I die.” Is not this the passion the church must have for souls today? Many churches are not growing basically for this very reason. It takes a passion for souls to build a church and to keep it growing.
5. In response to the cry, God gave her Joseph. He was the man who saved his family from starvation. This son of Jacob and Rachel’s love was a man of righteous living for he forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery and returning good for evil. What an example for the generation of which we are a part.

Prayer:
Dear God, Please remind us of all the blessings that the Christian enjoys each day as we seek to walk in the paths Thou hast chosen for us. Guard us daily as a jealous God, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
