Today's Bible Reading...

Bible Application Numbers 23-25 February 23

Questions:
1. “How shall I __________ whom God has not ____________? And how shall I denounce when the Lord has not denounced?” (23:8)
2. “Who can count the _______ of __________? Or number one-fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous and let my end be like his!: (23:10)
3.”So he answered and said, ‘Must I not take heed to speak what the _______ has put in my mouth?” (23:12)
4. “I see Him, but not now, I behold Him, but not near, A __________ shall come out of Jacob. A _______shall rise out of Israel and batter the brow of Moab and destroy all the sons of tumult.” (24:17)

Chapter 23 - Balaam’s Parables
Chapter 24 - Balaam foresees Israel’s happiness
Chapter 25 - Israel’s idolatry and adultery

What do we learn from this lesson?
1. In Balaam, we see a man, a prophet who loved God, yet who had an earthly desire for worldly gain. Yet his desire for gain diminished in his fear to go against God’s word. Some times we are like Balaam, we want to tell people what they want to hear , not what God wants them to hear. We must remember it is safer to fear God then men.
2. Balaam desires to die the death of the righteous. A righteous man who has been saved from sin, who has not only lived an innocent life but a holy life as well. He who would die well must live well. We can all take this lesson from Balaam.
3. In Chapter 29:17, Balaam sees Jesus as a light that will rise up out of Israel and shall smote all the enemies of Israel. He testifies to Balak of the greatness of israel. Great, indeed, is the nation whose God is the Lord, and whose priests and pastors will speak only what God would have them to speak.
4. The last lesson we learn from this passage comes from chapter 25, when people sin against God, they are a detriment to the growth of the church and are a detriment to the blessings that God would send upon His people. Thus all sin must be destroyed, either by conversion to Christ, or by whatever means God sees fit. For one thing is sure, God does not tolerate sin and sees that it is eventually removed from among His people.

Prayer:
O God, keep us from seeking the approval of men rather than Your approval. O Lord, may we always hear Your word and obey Your voice. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
