Chapter 21 - healing by the bronze serpent
Chapter 22 - Balaam’s experience
What do we learn from this lesson?
1. God always has healing for his repentant people. They had sinned and the Lord
slew many of the people with fiery serpents. Moses cried to the Lord and the
bronze serpent was raised among them for all who would look upon this bronze
serpent would be healed. Ever notice the emblem on a doctor’s gown or on many
hospital markers, the bronze serpent for our healing?
2. Our prayers should be that God will be with medical people as they go about
their God-given art of bringing healing to His people.
3. Balaam becomes a very valuable lesson to us. He is called upon to bless the
people of Moab who said “go get Balaam to pray for us that we may have victory
over the larger army of Israel.” God said to Balaam, ‘don’t go.’ Balaam went
anyway. Later God said, “if they ask thee to go go with them.” After a
confrontation with God, through an angel along the road, Balaam was persuaded to
go. He told Balak the truth, “I can only speak the words that God puts in my
mouth.”
4. How much trouble would have been avoided if we could only say what God wants
us to say. How many people would come to Christ if we would only be bold enough
to voice the words of confrontation with the sermons or words that God wants us
to speak.
Prayer:
O God, help us to guard our tongues that we would speak only the words you give
to us and to always look to Thee for healing of body, soul and mind. For in
Thee, we find all we need to enjoy life in this world and in the next world with
Thee. Amen.
