Bible Application - Leviticus 1-3 - February 1

Questions:
1. “If the offering is a _______ _____________ of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the _________ of meeting before the Lord.” (1:3)
2. “And if you bring as an offering a grain offering baked in the oven, it shall be unleavened _______ of fine _______ mixed with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.” (2:4)
3. “This shall be a ____________ statue throughout your generation in all your dwellings, you shall eat neither fat nor blood.” (3:17)

Chapter 1 - Directions of God for the people
Chapter 2 - Salt is required for meat sacrifices
Chapter 3 - Regulations of animal sacrifices.

What do we learn from this lesson?
1. Our offerings or sacrifices are directed by the voice of God. They, at this time, are not forced upon the people but were to be given freely but within the bounds of God’s desire for a proper sacrifice. Instructions are given to the priest to properly prepare each sacrifice to God’s specific directions.
2. Verse 3 of Chapter 1, informs us that all offerings are to be voluntary. No force from the church, the pastor or from another person designated to put pressure on people for an offering. This has always been God’s way but we would be cautioned that all offerings must be honest and given without show of praise or desire of reward. No size is placed on the offering. Only that which people could afford. Today, no offering is too large or too small. Only given in love and by free choice.
3. Meat offerings were to be given seasoned with salt. Salt is that purifying force that keeps and preserves meat, as well as giving special flavor to food. Many of us keep a salt shaker on the table for this very reason, to purify, season, and to give a pleasant taste to certain foods.
4. Then in verse 17 of Chapter 1, we are to be reminded that our offerings to God are not on a one time bases but this offering is to be for all times.
5. In our day, this is a continual giving so that the needs of the church would be met, that the poor be fed, widows cared for, and the church would continue to grow in such a force as to be an effective power of God for the generation of which we are a part, but always, remember that it is freely given to God for all redeeming graces of which He has blessed us.

Prayer:
O God, help us to remember that all we have, even life itself, is a gift from You. May our daily offerings and sacrifices reflect our continual love and thanksgiving to You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
